Flauntrepreneur Magazine >> What's is a name?

A name should almost be Google able
to be remembered

The quick answer,

A LOT!

We often hear the phrase, “I want to make a name for myself” but don’t really give much thought to how that can actually be achieved. I can assure you that no one becomes recognized or remembered by fluke. There’s a real process and approach that needs to be implemented if you're going to generate recognition for yourself. The good thing is, its not rocket science.

Here are some fool proof ways to increase your odds of being remembered in whatever industry you’re in.

Successful flauntrepreneurs are resourceful and usually devise a plan to market themselves and this includes a strategy for their name. Whether on the phone, via email, or in person, your name is your introduction to another person so it stands to reason that it should be as memorable as possible. I am not suggesting you change the name your beloved parents gave you but history has proven that there’s no harm in shortening, altering or manipulating it slightly. A few examples; Lets start with me, named Kymberley Joseph at birth, morphed into Ky Joseph when I entered the workforce. In hindsight, I wish I’d have given a little more thought to it, not realizing I would be sharing my identity with a state named Kentucky (KY) and a very popular pharmaceutical product (KY) :) . Nonetheless, people remember me as a result of my name and that’s what counts. Using a shortened version of my name wasn’t accidental; it was an intentional strategy as part of a bigger plan to brand myself.

We can really learn from personalities in the public eye because their objective is the same as ours, to be remembered and have longevity in a world filled with thousands of people we come in personal contact with every year.

Some clever business people use unusual concepts by incorporating their name to something easily remembered. Real estate agent Brad Lamb attaches a photo of his head to the body of a lamb in all his print ads (don’t laugh, it works), he’s oober successful and a major flauntrepreneur.

Sociology Professor at The Rotman School of Management, Olav Sorenson claims that in today’s web world, a name should almost be Google able to be remembered.

A solid tip: Work at becoming a contributor to one of your industry publications. You’ll be coined “an expert” on whatever topic you dazzle your readers with and generate enough impressions of your name over time to be recognized and remembered.

It’s not all that difficult but it does take work and a real thought process on your part.

You have to ask yourself if you’re worth the investment in time that it’s going to take to get your name out there and my guess is, if you’re reading this article, the answer is yes.

Here is just a small sample of celebrities who used the name game strategy to create a more memorable identity.
